KeKeZ (Zhang Ke) (b.2001, China) received her BA in Digital Media Arts from Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University in 2023, and is currently an MFA student at Columbia University School of the Arts with a concentration in Moving Image. Her work involves video, performance, sculpture and photography.

Her creative approach encompasses the random display of subtle emotions of a moment, capturing movement, especially in dance, through long takes to achieve unexpected results and express her constant sense of insecurity. Additionally, she often integrates personal acts into her works, whether as a performer or videographer. Her artistic exploration primarily focuses on the physical environment, specifically the rhythm and expressiveness of the human body. As a former professional dancer, her recent projects have been inspired by her hazardous year as a growing East Asian woman under the regime. Through meticulous observation of speech patterns and body movements, she attempts to incorporate these elements into her own identity. In the city of New York, she surreptitiously observes the details of others, drawing inspiration from them. In her artistic practice, she frequently imagines herself as a puddle, a mound, a handful, or a cupful of soil, constantly changing and easily shaped by the environment. The juxtaposition of healthy and dysfunctional bodies in her images reflects the conflicted state of her body. Through her art, she aims to convey the complexities of identity and the impact of societal and cultural norms on the individual.
